Luther Allen McDavid
December 16, 1923 — November 8, 2015
Luther Allen McDavid, 91, of Gate City, VA , passed into heaven on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Bristol Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He loved fishing, camping, going out to eat and gardening.
Allen was a faithful member of Marble Point United Methodist Church having served as Administrative Board Member, Superintendent of Sunday School, member of the Building Committee, and member of the choir.
He retired from Holston Defense Corporation after 38 years of service in plant supervision, and was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Coast Guard.
Allen was born in Wise County, VA on December 16, 1923, to the late Hugh E. and Mary Dell Mowdy McDavid.
In addition to his parents, Allen is preceded in death by his sisters, Lucille Williams, Ruth Smith and Jean Smith, as well as an infant brother.
Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Helen McDavid, Gate City, VA; daughters, Alana Roberts and Freddie, Church Hill, TN, Sherry Bray and Leon, Kingsport, TN; grandson Josh Roberts and wife Mandy, Gate City, Va; sisters, Maylene Reed, Gate City, VA, Betty Peters and Oscar, Gate City, VA, Nell Rice, Kingsport, TN; brothers, Special Brother In Law, Jim Smith, Gate City, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Gate City Funeral Home on November 11, 2015 from 5:00-7:00pm with services to follow in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Reverend John Hackney, Reverend J.W. Bowen and Rev. Toby Reed officiating. Michelle Jenkins will provide the music. Interment will be conducted November 12, 2015 at 11:00 am at Holston View Cemetery.
Family and friends are asked to meet at Gate City Funeral Home at 10:15 to go in procession to the graveside service
The family request no food be brought to the home.
