Peggy Jean Meade McConnell, 76, of Kingsport, TN, passed away Friday, September 28, 2012 at Life Care Center of Gray, TN.
Mrs. McConnell was born May 31, 1936 in Scott County, VA, to the late Emmitt and Tennessee Meade. She retired from the Mead Corporation after 21 years.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Joe D. Meade.
She is survived by her husband, William "Billy Jack" McConnell of Kingsport, TN, daughters, Teresa Carter and husband Roy of Salem, VA and Tina Slaughter of Kingsport, TN, son, Gary McConnell of Kingsport, TN, grandchildren, Melissa Kleiner, Markeeta Gillenwater, Michele Cooper, Sammy Dennison and Nathan Carter, great-grandchildren, Jordana and Elise Kleiner, Carter and Erin Gillenwater, Eli Cooper, and nephew, Darrell Meade.
The McConnell family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 30, 2012 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of Gate City Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. with Reverend Joe Barber and Reverend Miles Baines officiating. Lee Smith Singers will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 1, 2012, at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. Darrell Meade, Roy Carter, Nathan Cooper, Daniel Cooper, Sammy Dennison and Adam Smith will serve as pallbearers. The family will meet at Gate City Funeral Home to go in procession to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Street, Greenville, SC 29605.
