Mrs. Ora Knox McConnell, 98, Nickelsville, VA died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a short illness.

She was born June 14, 1913 in Scott County, Virginia where she resided all of her life. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She accepted Christ at a young age, and was the oldest member of Culbertson Chapel United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Francis W. McConnell (1967); her parents, George W. and Helen Fraley Vicars; five brothers; two sisters; son-in-law, Allen Jonas, and great granddaughter, Kayley Jean Franklin preceded her in death.
Knox is survived by her daughters, Doris Ann Jonas and Carolyn Vicars and husband, Jarvis, all of Nickelsville, VA; grandchildren, Jeff Vicars and wife, Mary Ann, Jennifer Pennington and husband, Steve, LeAnn Franklin and husband, Scott; great grandchildren, Ashley Vicars Skeens and husband, Michael, Tana Vicars and Jake Broadwater, Wesley Franklin, Savannah Franklin, Stephen Pennington, Ally Franklin, and Ethan Pennington; brother-in-law, Edwin Dingus and wife, Flo; sister-in-law, Hazel Dingus; along with several nieces, nephew, cousins, and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Carloyn and Jarvis Vicars. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Brandon Berg and the Rev. Robert Carbary officiating. The Nickelsville Circuit Choir will provide the music.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Jeff Vicars, Steve Pennington, Scott Franklin, Wesley Franklin, Stephen Pennington, and Jake Broadwater will serve as pallbearers. Ethan Pennington and Michael Skeens will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Family and friends are asked to meet at Holston View Cemetery at 1:45 p.m. for the graveside service.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gregory DeMotts and his staff, the doctors and nurses at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, members of the Nickelsville Rescue Squad, and all of the friends and neighbors.

Donations may be made to Culbertson Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the Nickelsville Rescue Squad.
