Gate City, VA – Frances Gibson McConnell, 86, went to be with her Lord on March 15, 2010 after a brief illness at the Brian Center.
She was born November 30, 1923 in Nickelsville, VA. She was the daughter of the late Walter William and Maggie Belle Litton Gibson. She was a graduate of Nickelsville High School. Frances was saved at Meade's Chapel Church and later joined First Baptist Church of Nickelsville. She and her late husband, E.B., were co-owners of the Mountain View Market, of Gate City, for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Ernest (E.B.) McConnell; her parents, two brothers and wives, Giles and June and Bryce and Amma Gibson; and two sisters, Clarice Gibson and Betty Miller; one sister-in-law, Winnie Lee McConnell Richardson.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles W. (Bill) and Mary Evelyn, Gate City, VA, James E. (Jimmy) and Gail McConnell, Nickelsville, VA; two grandsons and wives, Rhea E. and Amber McConnell, Michael W. and Meghan McConnell, Kingsport, TN; two granddaughters, Whitney and Ashley McConnell, Nickelsville, VA; three great-grandchildren, Blake, Anna and Cade McConnell; one brother and wife, Don and Angie Gibson, Johnson City, TN; brother-in-law and wife, Ralph and Anita Miller, Jefferson City, NC; special sister-in-law, Shirley Gibson, Knoxville, TN; two nieces and husbands, Julia and Wiley Hammer, Knoxville, TN, Nancy and Jim Caldwell, Mt. Carmel, TN; two nephews, Don and Susan Gibson, Johnson City, TN, Scott Gibson, Knoxville, TN; several great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her sons. Services will be at 8 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Paul Blessing and Rev. Steve Collins officiating. Music will be provided by Carolyn Maddux.
Graveside services will be at 12 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. The family will meet at 11:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Broadwater, Larry Vicars, Don Gibson, Jr., Scott Gibson, Seth Rhoton, Tyler Rhoton, Bill Lawson, Ronald Turner, David Redwine and Johnny Redwine.
The McConnell family would like to extend a very special thanks to the staff of the Brian Center for the outstanding care of their mother and thanks to Bro. Paul Blessing and Bro. Steve Collins for their many visits.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Nickelsville.
