Clarice Gillenwater McConnell, 87, Gate City, VA passed away, Sunday, December 18, 2011 at the home of her daughter after a brief illness.
Mrs. McConnell was born in Scott County, VA on April 3, 1924, the daughter of the late Wales Orton and Amanda Elizabeth Stallard Gillenwater.
She and her husband, Gerald sang as the McConnell Duet at numerous churches in the region for over 20 years. She was a faithful Christian and a great influence and witness to neighbors. She touched and mentored numerous young people throughout her lifetime.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald McConnell; brothers, William C. Gillenwater, Ralph Gillenwater, and Edgar Gillenwater; sisters, Venus Kimbler, Anna Ruth Brickey, Irene Price, Natalie Cox, and Nancy Tate; and infant siblings, Vira Edna Gillenwater and Elmer Lee Gillenwater.
She is survived by her daughter, Darenda Musick and husband, Johnnie; beloved granddaughters, Vicki Musick Davis and husband, Roger, and Vonda Musick Potter and husband, Bradd; beloved great grandchildren, Taylor and Chase Davis, and Cassity, Brody, Maggie, and Lexie Potter; sister, Beulah Faye Miles; brother, John Henry Gillenwater; sisters-in-law, Gladys Gillenwater Delp and Helen Gillenwater; brothers-in-law, Caldwell Brickey and Woodrow Kimbler; special cousins, James McConnell and Mary (Sis) McConnell Caradine; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Hassie Elliott.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Wrightly Salling and the Rev. Vernon McDavid officiating. The Potters will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the McConnell Cemetery. Bradd Potter, Roger Davis, Taylor Davis, Edisol Musick, Bill Flanary, Willie Mack Musick, and James McConnell will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
