Sandra Lynn Maxfield, 56, Abingdon, VA, our special angel went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, VA.
Sandy was born in Baltimore, MD. but spent most of her life in Nickelsville, VA before moving to Abingdon, VA.
She worked at the Greenhouse in Gate City, later at Duffield and attended school at Big Stone Gap, before illness required her to retire in 2007.
Sandy made friends where ever she went. She loved to be around people and all her friends, especially her caregiver, Sandra Jessee.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Maxfied; her mother, Dorothy Maxfield; brother, Roger Maxfield and his wife, JoAnn Maxfield.
Survivors are her sister, Nancy Via and husband, Larry, Abingdon, VA; brother, Michael Maxfield and wife, Beth, Whitley City, KY. Sandy also had several nieces and nephews that played an important role in her life. She loved them all.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Danny Felty officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 2, 2012 at Ketron Memorial Gardens, Lebanon, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
