Hazel V. Mathisen, 83, Kingsport, TN went to be with her Lord, Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Holston Manor, Kingsport, TN.
Born in Scott County, VA on November 28, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Wrightly and Margaret (Peters) Hammonds.
Hazel attended several churches in her lifetime. At a young age, she repented and attended Jennings Mission in the Daniel Boone community of Gate City, VA, and later Bethel Apostolic Church and Apostolic Revival Center.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Franklin Delano Mathisen; sisters, Wilma Monroe, Mamilee Hammonds; brothers, Paul, Herbert, and James (Jake) Hammonds, along with three other infant siblings preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sisters, Beatrice Lane and husband, Sammy, Duffield, VA, Elizabeth Strong, Kingsport, TN, and Louella Mays, Kingsport, TN; her special caregiver and sister-in-law, Bonnie Hammonds, Kingsport, TN; several nieces, nephews, and many, many church friends.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Brother Leonard Dixon and Brother Charles Thacker officiating.
Burial will follow the service at the V.A. Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN.
