Lula Hammock – Duffield, VA

Lula Loretta (Bowen) Hammock, 85, Duffield, VA passed away, Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Norton Community Hospital.

Lula was born in Scott County, VA on September 21, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Rev. Ernest T. and Emmer Lou (Miller) Bowen.

She was of the Free Will Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Joe Hammock,  sister, Nannie Hash and brother, Denver Bowen preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sisters, Rosaella Calton and Phyllis Bowen, brother, Donald Bowen, two very special nephews, Edward Bowen, and Terry Calton, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Brother Joe Townsend officiating. Durham’s Chapel Singers will provide the music.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, August 6, 2023, at the Bowen Cemetery. Duffield, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Family and friends are asked to meet at Bowen Cemetery for the graveside service at 12:45 p.m.
