Lemuel Ray Lucas, 86, a lifelong resident of the Dungannon community, passed away February 19, 2009 at the Brian Center, Weber City, VA.
Mr. Lucas was born in Scott County, Virginia on December 27, 1922, a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Easter Ellen Cox Lucas.
He was a farmer and a timber cutter throughout Scott County. He loved his granddaughters, who were his pride and joy, and he was a dog lover.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Claude, Eugene and Roy Lucas, and five sisters, Rebecca Fletcher, Gertrude Bush, Edith Alvis, Alfie Kate Lucas, and Melissa Lambert.
Surviving are his sons, Scotty Lucas and wife, Tina, Yuma, VA, and Rodney Lucas and fianc?e, Julie Littleton, Sullivan Gardens, TN, daughter, Delores Whitley and husband, Tommy, Kingsport, TN, grandchildren, Rebekah Lucas and Audrey Lucas, Yuma, VA, and Kelsey Whitley, Kingsport, TN, brother, Fred Lucas and wife, Evelyn, Corencro, LA, sisters-in-law, Winnie Lucas and Mozella Lucas, both of Dungannon, VA, along with several nieces and nephews and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Allen Karnes officiating. The Lee Smith Singers will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Cox Family Cemetery, Nickelsville, VA. Joshua Littleton, Carl Edward Gibson, Travis Whitley, Troy Lucas, Allen Lucas and Walter Lucas will serve as pallbearers. Carl Culbertson, Hubert Lambert and Jimmy Fricker will serve as honorary pallbearers.
