Louvenia (Nell) Bowen

Louvenia (Nell) Bowen, 80, Mount Carmel, TN and formerly of Scott County, VA passed away, Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at The Waters of Roan Highlands, Roan Mountain, TN.

Nell was born in Scott County, VA on October 28, 1942, and was the daughter of the late Charlie and Nina Madge (Barnette) Carter.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Amos Gerald Bowen, an infant son, Allen Gerald Bowen, sisters, Betty Roberts, and Marceline Sloan, and brothers, Wayne Carter and David Carter preceded her in death.

Surviving are her daughters, Robin Bowen Sexton and husband, Jackie, Gate City, VA, Sherry Bowen Brown and husband, Mark “Chip”, Mount Carmel, TN,  Melissa Bowen Neff and husband, Greg, Surgoinsville, TN, and Paula Bowen Kern, grandchildren, Danielle Throp and husband, Walker, Whitney Mayeaux and husband, Scott, Kayla Townsend and husband, Dustin, Tanner Neff, Ethan Neff, and Kiana Epperson and Will, several great grandchildren, sisters, Thelma Rhoton, Gate City, VA, Paulette Rains, Kingsport, TN, and Brenda Gillenwater and husband, Larry, Kingsport, TN, brother, James Carter, Gate City, VA, along with several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the Carter Family Cemetery, Duffield, VA with the Rev. Eugene Sexton officiating.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Family and friends are asked to meet at Gate City Funeral Home at 12:15 p.m., to go in procession to the graveside, or meet at the Carter Family Cemetery at 12:45 p.m.

The family wishes to convey very special thanks to Brenda and Larry Gillenwater, the staff of Abundant Living and The Waters of Roan Highlands for their love and care of Mom.
