Joan (Jody) Nickels Lewis
Gate City, VA ? Joan (Jody) Nickels Lewis, 77, died peacefully in her sleep, Saturday, February 2, 2008 at her residence.
She was born May 22, 1930 in Mendota, VA to the late Charles W. Nickels and Lily Mae Fleenor Nickels. She was a graduate of Shoemaker High School and the Whitney School of Business. She was a charter member of Community Fellowship Baptist Church and was a member of the Agape Ladies Circle. She volunteered with her circle at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.
Survivors include her loving husband, Robert Boyd Lewis; daughter, Carol Elaine and husband, Ed Buchanan; son, Dennis Boyd and wife, Patsy Lewis; two sisters, Frances Keith and Mary Ruth and husband, Roy Wolfe, Jr.; brother, Charlie and wife, Jane Nickels; three grandchildren, Cristy Lewis, Bradley and wife, Allison Lewis and Arminda (Mindy) Sparks; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2008 at Gate City Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be at 8 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. John Sheppard officiating. Music will be provided by Judy McConnell and Francie Henard. Eulogy will be given by Priscilla Pendleton.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. The family will meet at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be the deacons of Community Fellowship Baptist Church, Brent Herron, Bob Blackstock, Morris Henard, Bill Pendleton, Bobby George, Eddie McConnell, Danny Kilgore, Max Peters, Eddie Shell.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends and deacons of Community Fellowship Baptist Church, Mario Duquette, Allen Giles, Richard Helms, Danny Ward, Ronnie Dow, Darrell Bolling, Leo Hackler, M.A. Lunsford, Ronnie Herron, Roy Wolfe, Raymond Newton, Dr. James Thornton, Dr. Dan Culbertson, C.E. Burchfield, Darnell McConnell, Barry McConnell and Bill Draper.
