Michael V. Lester – Weber City, VA
Michael Vent Lester, 65, Weber City, Va. passed away, Friday, Feb. 5, 2016 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center, Norton, Va. after a lengthy illness.
Mike was born in Detroit, Michigan on Dec. 10, 1950. He was the son of Frances Pickle Lester and the late George Vent Lester.
He had a profound love for his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at an early age but was unable to complete the process due to medical conditions.
He was a graphic designer with Kingsport Times News for sixteen years, and served as an announcer at Bristol Dragway.
Mike was a gifted musician who first learned guitar from his father, and who played in more bands than can be remembered.
In addition to his father, his sister, Peggy Lester, son-in-law Neil Farmer; brother-in-law, Harold Davenport; and a step-niece, Jessica Monroe preceded him in death.
He is survived by his long time companion, Ann Crites, Weber City, Va.; daughters, Amanda “Mandy” Farmer and Terri Lester; son, Chris Lester; his mother, Frances Lester, Glade Spring, Va.; Kristen Mowell, Patricia Hayes, and Jonnie Hayes, whom he thought of as his daughters; grandchildren, Ryan and Blake; his special friend, Corey Rollins; Lakyn, Matt, Grace, Kylie, Drake, and his special little prayer Buddy, Cooper, whom he thought of as his grandchildren; sister, Mary Lee Davenport, Glade Spring, Va.; brother, Jeff Lester and wife, Dawn Dabney, Weber City, Va.; niece, Amber Kennedy and husband, Sean; nephew, Quentin Dabney; and his beloved cat, Blu Baby.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home.
