Leonard “Leo” Rhoton – Duffield, VA

Leonard “Leo” Rhoton, 78, Duffield, VA passed away, Friday, May 26, 2023, at his residence after a courageous battle with Mesothelioma, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Scott County on August 22, 1944, he was the son of the late Kemp and Mae Zella Rhoton.

Leonard retired from Eastman Chemical as an electrician after 34 years of service, and in his later years, he was an employee of Gate City Funeral Home, doing removals for over 20 years, until his health started to decline.

In addition to his parents, his son, Danny Lee Rhoton preceded him in death on May 5, 2023.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Nancy (Horton) Rhoton, Duffield, VA, son, Dr. Charlie Rhoton and wife, Valarie, Kingsport, TN, daughter-in-law, Sherry Rhoton, Duffield, VA, grandchildren, Aidan Rhoton, and Adaline Rhoton, both of Kingsport, TN, and Brittany Grindstaff of Bristol, VA.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bill Tignor and Rev. Phillip Free officiating. Durham’s Chapel Quartet will provide the music.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA.

Jimmy Shipley, James Miller, Billy Jo Dockery, Jamie Broadwater, Rick Meade, and Floyd Mutter will serve as pallbearers. Dewey Miller, Bobby Duncan, Bettye and “Ty” Miller, and the Gate City Funeral Home personnel will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Family and friends are asked to meet at Gate City Funeral Home at 11:15 a.m., Wednesday to go in procession to the graveside service.
