Maurice "Speedy" Leonard – Kingsport, TN Maurice Leonard passed away at Wellmont Holston Valley after suffering a stroke and went home to be with his Lord Jesus on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Mr. Leonard was born in Scott County, VA on November 9, 1926, the son of the late Washington Conley and Bernice Mae Larkey Leonard. He was a member of West Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Colonial Heights and of the Masonic Catlett Lodge # 35 of Gate City, VA. He retired from the Glycol Department at Tennessee Eastman after 40 years of service and was also a World War II veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Leonard, and sisters, Helen Leonard Shaffer and Pauline Leonard Shaffer. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Maude Arwood Leonard, Kingsport, TN; son, Gary Leonard, Johnson City, TN; daughter, Joan Leonard Hobbs and husband, Kerry, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Nathan Hobbs; Jason Leonard; Alice Leonard Maden and husband, Landon; Jared Hobbs and wife, Brittany; and great grandson Titus Hobbs; brothers, Ray Leonard, Hiltons, VA and Larry Leonard, Jonesboro, TN; sister, Doris Leonard Pierman, Bristol, VA; along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, July 2, 2010 at the Gate City Funeral Home. A Masonic service will be conducted at 6:45 p.m. by members of Catlett Lodge #35, Gate City, VA. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Paul Blessing officiating. Tony and Angela Ellis and Charlotte Chase will provide the music. Military graveside services will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265 of Gate City, VA. at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 3, 2010 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Larry Leonard, Gary Leonard, Kerry Hobbs, Bud Hansen, Nathan Hobbs, Jason Leonard, and Jared Hobbs will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Catlett Lodge #35, Gate City, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m.to go in procession to Holston View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, P.O. Box 863765, Orlando, FL 32886-3765.
