Mrs. Lawson was born in Scott County, VA on November 13, 1929, the daughter of the late John Milton and Mima Stallard Gillenwater.She attended Fellowship Chapel, Ft. Blackmore, VA.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Bill R. Lawson, sister, Nina Catron, and mother and father in law, Ezra and Ollie Lawson preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Lane and husband, Butch, Ft. Blackmore, VA and Shelby Kern and husband, Johnny, Church Hill, TN; sons, Billy Ray Lawson, Jr. and best friend, Gaye Stapleton, Ft. Blackmore, VA and David Lawson and wife, Brenda, Dungannon, VA; grandchildren, Shawn Lane, Chad Lane, Keith Kern, Anthony Kern, and Autumn Lawson; great grandchildren, Bridgett Kern, Chloe Lane, Connor Lane, Clay Lane, Grayson Lane, and Garrett Lane; sisters, Olene Starnes, IN, Dorothy Kimbler and husband, William, Ft. Blackmore, VA, and Alice Carter and husband, Wayne, Ft. Blackmore, VA; brothers, Paul Gillenwater and wife, Charlotte, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Fred Gillenwater and wife, Nancy, Clinchport, VA, C. E. Gillenwater and wife, Wanda, Knoxville, TN, Russell Gillenwater and wife, Hazel, Maynardville, TN, and Dale Gillenwater and wife, Ann, Kingsport, TN; brothers-in-law, Lucian Lawson and wife, Ina, James Lawson and wife, Sue, and Otis Lawson and wife, Mima; sister-in-law, Laura Muse; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Coy Butler and Brother Wayne Stallard officiating. Durham's Chapel Quartet and Dontha Walton will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Lawson Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. William Kimbler, Jr., Chris Kimbler, Matthew Kimbler, Scott Gillenwater, Keith Kern, and Anthony Kern will serve as pallbearers. Michael Carter, Larry Catron, Rickey Starnes, Doug Gillenwater, and Elbert Gillenwater will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
The family wishes to convey a thank you to special friends and neighbors, Jackie and Shirley Begley, and to Caris Healthcare of Bristol, VA for their love and care of Mrs. Lawson.
