Charles Lawson – Gate City, VA
Charles H. Lawson, 87, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, February 03, 2012 at Indian Path Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Ft. Blackmore, VA on July 31, 1924, he was the son of the late Ira and Lula Lawson. He was one of ten children. Charles went to work as a young child to help support his family and later retired from General Motors in Euclid, OH and again from the Virginia Department of Transportation in Ft. Blackmore, VA.
He was a born again Christian and was a proud member of Midway Baptist Church. Charles loved family and friends, gardening and sitting on the front porch with his beloved wife, Lucille.
In addition to his parents, brothers, Bert, Jeff, Lonnie, and Jim; and sisters, Dorie, Mamie, Mary, and Cecil preceded him in death.
Surviving is his loving wife of 66 years, Lucille Lawson; children, Nancy Perry and husband, Scotty, Judith Pierson and husband, Gray, and Charles Lawson, Jr., and wife, Diane; grandchildren, Lisa Kincer and husband, Mike, Sherry Lane and husband, Everette, James Pierson and wife, Jan, Jason Perry and wife, Stephanie, Jeremy Lawson, and Shane Lawson; great grandchildren, Amanda Calton and husband, Gabe, Emily Egan and husband, Josh, Connor Pierson, Phoebe Lane, Hannah Lane, Amy Perry, and Ryan Perry; great great grandsons, Levi Calton, Ezekiel Charles Calton, and Jaden Egan; brother, Lucian Lawson and wife, Ina, Ft. Blackmore, VA; along with several loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, February 5, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home, and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Coy Butler and the Rev. Gary Elliott officiating. Midway Melody will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 6, 2012 at the Lawson Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank his special caregivers, Brenda Salling and Esta Elliott, and the caring nurses at Indian Path Medical Center.
