Jim Lane – Kingsport, TN
Jim Lane of Kingsport, TN went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, July 16 at his residence with his family by his side.
Jim was born in Scott County, VA to the late John and Hannah (Braham) Lane. He left home at the age of 16 to serve his country by joining the Air Force. He was stationed in South Dakota where he lived for many years. Upon returning, he resided in Kingsport where he was district manager for Combined Insurance Company and owner of Lane Construction.
Jim was a born again Christian and he loved to tell everyone about our Lord and Savior. He traveled and played the guitar with the Believers Quartet for many years. He was a member, Deacon, and Superintendent of Sunday School and past secretary and treasurer of Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church, where he also sang and played the guitar.
Jim loved and embraced life. He was a loving husband, and Dad who loved to hunt and fish, especially with his son. He was an avid sports fan, loved spending time with all his family and walking on the beach looking for shark teeth. You could find him every Thursday morning at the Kingsport Senior Center playing his guitar and singing.
He was always the first person to help everyone at their time of need. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Summey Lane; his loving son, Richard Lee Lane; brother, Grover Lane, FL; special brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Bobbie (Summey) Quillen, Mack and Janice (Gass) Summey, Martha Salling Summey, Glenda Jones Summey, Judy Brickey Summey; and a host of special nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at the Gate City Funeral Home on Saturday, July 18, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Clint Ramey and Rev. Lawrence Wolfe officiating.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2015 at the Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA. Rickey Summey, Tim Rhoton, Terry Quillen, Mike Summey, Kim Summey, Jon Summey, Mark Summey, and Bob Blanton will serve as pallbearers. Deacons and the Sunday School Class of Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jeff Summers, Dr. Shahin and all their staff; also, a special thank you to Nell Raeon, his constant and loving caregiver; and to Hospice for their loving care. They were wonderful . God bless each and everyone in the medical field.
