Nancy Upchurch Lamb

Nancy Ernestine Upchurch Lamb, went to be with the Lord September 30, 2009.
She was born March 26, 1910 in Duffield, VA. She was 99 years, 6 months and 4 days old. She was a resident of Preston Place in Kingsport, TN for seven years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Almira Peters Upchurch.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luke W. Lamb; daughter, Berniece Bledsoe and a son, Jimmy Lamb; four sisters; Rebecca Upchurch, Maxie Roache, Helga Sallee and Lucy Bailey. Seven brothers, Edgar, Will, Elmer, Floyd, Ike, Joseph and Charlie B. Upchurch who was killed in WWII.
She enrolled in Sunday School in 1912 and joined Petersons Chapel Church in 1923.
She was a member of Southern Highland Craft Guild and enjoyed sewing, working puzzles, handcrafts and did volunteer work at Duffield Nursing Home in her younger days.
She is survived by seven children, Almira Lane and husband, Warren, Richmond, VA, Shirley Stapleton and husband, J.C., Weber City, VA, Anna Ailstock, Clarksville, Ark., Pauline Williams and husband, Paul, Bremerton, Washington, Magline Raley and husband, Jim, Silverdale, Washington, David B. and wife, Mary, Hixson, TN, Jean Dennison and husband, Charles, Jonesville, VA; 20 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 26 great-great grandchildren; a host of nephews and nieces; three sister-in-laws; one brother-in-law and many friends.
The family will receive friends 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Will Shewey officating. Music will be provided by Judy McConnell and Francie Henard.
Graveside services will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in East Stone Gap, VA.
Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of Preston Place for their care and friendship for Nancy for the last seven years. Also the Wellmont Hospice for their care, support and compassion.
