Selma Louise Lane Kerns, 81, Gate City, VA passed away, Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at her residence.
Mrs. Kerns was born in Scott County, VA on December 19, 1932 to the late Rev. Lucian H. and Ethel Loucella Lane.
She was Office Manager with State Farm Insurance for many years. She sang and played in several gospel quartets throughout Scott County. She was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Jimmy Ray Kerns; brother, Willard Cecil Lane; Father of her children, Marvin Jack Taylor and step-mother, Sarah Baker Lane preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sister, Helen McDavid and husband, Allen; sons, Michael Lynn Taylor and wife, Anita, Gate City, VA, David “Tony” Taylor and Teresa, Kingsport, TN, and Ricky M. Taylor and wife, Debbie, Bluff City, TN; grandchildren, William Michael Taylor, Zachary Lee. Taylor, Rick Anthony Taylor and wife, April, Andrew Lane Taylor and wife, Ashton, and Alex Trey Taylor; great-grandchildren, Ashley Taylor, Jack Taylor, Brianna Taylor and Aden Taylor; step-sons, Allen Kerns, Mack Kerns and Eddie Kerns; step-grandchildren, Miranda (Mandy) Mitchell and husband, Jake, Layla Kerns, Justin Kerns and Sammy Kerns; step-great grandchildren, Brenton Sloan, Jaxon Mitchell, Haley Kerns and Natalie Kerns; sisters-in-law, Jimmie Lane, Weber City, VA and Edna Grizzle, Kingsport, TN; brother-in-law, Johnny Kerns, Clinchport, VA; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7p.m., Sunday, June 22, 2014 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Kenny Hammonds officiating. True Faith Quartet and Josh Gilliam will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 23, 2014 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Michael Taylor, Rick Taylor, Zachary Taylor, Andrew Taylor, Alex Taylor, Joshua Roberts, Michael Lane and Jim Carroll will serve as pallbearers. Ashley Taylor, Jack Taylor, Brianna Taylor and Aden Taylor will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. for the graveside service.
