Everette Fred Kern, 82, Mount Carmel, TN passed away, Friday, January 09, 2015 at his residence after a short illness.
Everette was born in Scott County, VA on September 17, 1932 to the late Roy and Maude Greear Kern.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He retired from the Tenite Division of Eastman Chemical in 1994 with 28 years of service.
In addition to his parents, his first wife, Frances Sims Kern and brother-in-law, Rex Yokley preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Phillips Kern, Mount Carmel, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Betty Kern, Slant, VA; sister, Margie Yokley; niece, Susan Yokley; brothers-in-law, Lowell Phillips and wife, Ada, and Norman Draper; sister-in-law, Zada P. Richards; a very special niece and nephew, Cheyanne and Colton Bagshaw; along with several other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Norman Draper officiating. Zada Richards and Lowell Phillips will provide the music.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Oak Hill Memorial Gardens by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post # 265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
