Elva Margaret Kern, 93, Clinchport, VA died Friday, August 3, 2012 at Brookhaven Nursing Home in Kingsport, TN.

She was born December 23, 1918 in Scott County, VA to Virginia and Dan Hill.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Loring Kern; daughters, Frances Kern and Mary Kerns; sisters, Tavie Ashworth, Mae Kern, and Lela Hill; brothers, Milford Hill and Floyd Hill; and one great grandson.

She is survived by her daughters, Irene McDavid and husband Grover of Duffield, VA., Marjorie Bostic and husband Bennett of Mt. Carmel, TN, Ethel Hensley and husband Denny of Rogersville, TN, and Kate Vickers and Wayne Harville of Kingsport, TN; sons, Ralph Kern and wife Faye of LaGrange, OH, and Cecil Kern and wife Wanda of Duffield, VA; sister, Myrtle Egan of Duffield, VA; brother, Dewey Hill of Duffield, VA; 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The Kern family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 6, 2012 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Joe Hill and Reverend Paul Blessing officiating. Durham's Chapel Quartet will provide the music.

Graveside services for Mrs. Kern will be Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Kern Family Cemetery, Bishop Town Rye Cove, VA, at 11a.m. J.B. Egan, Elmer Hill, David Hill, Chris Davidson, Jason Davidson, Leon Kern, Steve Lane, and Josh Kern will serve as pallbearers. Wayne McDavid, Charles Kern, and Michael Calhoun, Malcom Hill, and grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
