Mrs. Claudia Qualls Kern, 91, passed away, Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Lonesome Pine Medical Center, Big Stone Gap, VA.
Mrs. Kern was born in Scott County, VA on March 18, 1920 to the late Ernest Doyle and Ninnie Hamilton Qualls.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester C. Kern (2003); grandson, Tracy Bridges; and 4 sisters.
Surviving are her daughters, Judy K. Lang and husband, Wallace, Beaver Dam, VA, Peggy K. Weinerth and husband, John, Durham, NC, and; grandsons, Todd Bridges and wife, Kerri, Raleigh, NC, and Wally Lang, Ashland, VA; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Ann Williams, Clinchport ,VA; special friends, Marie and Bill Jones; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m., Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Kenneth Hill and the Rev. Bill LaFollotte officiating.
Burial will follow the services at Holston View Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family wishes to convey their special thanks to her neighbors and friends for the quality they added to her life with their calls and visits and to her care helpers that enabled her to live at home longer.
Flowers are acceptable or memorial remembrances may be made to the Duffield Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 297, Duffield, VA 24244.
There will be a reception following the burial in the recreational building at the First Baptist Church of Gate City, VA, 248 East Jackson Street, Gate City, VA 24251.
