Eugene Newton "Newt" Kelly, 83, passed away, Saturday, June 2, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Kelly was born in Scott County, VA on August 13, 1928 to the late James Nathaniel Kelly and Pearl White Kelly, of which he was the youngest of five children.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in both World War II and the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Virginia Kelly Shores, Mary Freda Kelly, and Jamie Kelly Franklin; and one brother, Hobart Glenn Kelly.
He is survived by his nieces, Patricia Ball, Barbara Hass, and Mary Kay Shores, all of Duffield, VA, Jayne Shores Wells and husband, Jack, Cary, NC, Pamela Shores Bryant, Charlottesville, VA, Betty Fugate and husband, Thomas, Frankfort, KY; nephew, William James (Bill) Franklin, Jr., Duffield, VA, and Buford Wayne Sturgill and wife, Pamela, Lenox, MI; along with several great nieces and great nephews.
In keeping with his wishes, his body was cremated. His ashes will be interred in Glencoe Cemetery, Big Stone Gap, VA at a date and time to be announced later.
Military Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Glencoe Cemetery, Big Stone Gap, VA by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. and with Rev. Ray Dockery officiating.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
