Kay P. Pierson – Kingsport, TN

Kay Pendleton Pierson, 86, Kingsport, TN, passed away, Thursday, January 30, 2025, at The Waters of Bristol with his family by his side.

Kay was born in Scott County, VA on October 12, 1938, and was the son of the late Clyde and Anna Myrtle Pierson.

He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, serving at Fort Knox, Fort Monroe, and with the 639th Transportation Company, Kingsport, TN.

In addition to his parents,  first wife, Georgia, and his sisters, Sue Fletcher and Sandy Linkous preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Gillenwater Pierson, step children, Crystal (Derrick) Baker, Marvin Egan, Wesley Egan, and Vance (Sherry) Egan, nieces, Linda Quillin, Lisa Ervin, Lori Burton, and Angie Nelson, sister-in-law, Shirley (Coy) Butler, brothers-in-law, Gerald (Delilah) Gillenwater, Tommy (Janice) Gillenwater, and Howard (Nell) Gillenwater, 6 step grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren, along with several cousins and many friends. 

Military Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 3, 2025, at the V.A. Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN with Military Honors by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team.

Tommy Gillenwater, Gerald Gillenwater, Wesley Egan, Vance Egan, Josh Egan, Justin Austin, James McConnell, and Jeff Davis will serve as pallbearers. Gary Quillen, the men of Midway Baptist Church, and the men of Lynn Garden Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family wishes to convey their most heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Waters of Bristol and Gentiva Hospice, Kingsport, TN for all of the love and support to our family.
