Judge “Matthew” Lane Jr. – Duffield, VA

Judge “Matthew” Lane, Jr., 67, Duffield, VA, passed away, Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at Indian Path Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Matthew was born in Scott County, VA, on August 27, 1955, to the late Judge Matthew Lane Sr., and Christa Belle Lovell Lane.

Matthew was a loving husband, father, and grandfather that enjoyed spending time with his family. He was also an avid outdoorsman that loved hunting, fishing, and riding the four-wheeler with his dog Copper.

In addition to his parents, brother, James Lane; sister-in-law, Teresa Calhoun; and brothers-in-law, Bill Smith, Robin Barnett, E.J. Lane, and Terry Calhoun preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife, Kathy Lane; daughter, Jennifer Harkleroad (Todd); son, Jason Lane; daughter-in-law, Amy Quillen Lane; sisters, Laura Jane Lane, Shirley Smith, and Ruby Barnett; brother, Orbin Lane (Jenny); sister-in-law, Frances Culbertson; grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Chase) Green, Alisha Lane (Jeremy), Abby Vicars (Jacob), Emily Lane, Karen Lane, Maddie Lane, Jackson Collins, and Ava Lucas; step-grandchildren, Gavin and Gage Harkleroad; great-granddaughter,  Carter Green; step great-grandson, Waylon Harkleroad; fur babies, Copper and Snowball; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 3, 2023, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Kevin Sanders officiating. Way of the Cross will provide the music.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the Matthew Lane Cemetery, Fairview Community on Cactus Lane. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.

Jason Lane, Jackson Collins, Todd Harkleroad, Chase Green, Jacob Dishner, and Steven Falin will serve as pallbearers. Johnny Odle, Rick Harrison, Junior Hicks, Billy Robinson, Clint Barker, and James Lamb will serve as honorary pallbearers.
