Beverly Louise Bond Jones, born October 14, 1937, passed away January 28, 2018 after a 12-year struggle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Beverly was born and raised in Kingsport, TN. She was a 1955 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School.
Beverly married Jack Jones in 1960 and together they raised 3 beautiful little girls. Beverly owned and operated the House of Flowers for 25 years. She retired as the manager of the shoes and accessories department at Burlington Coat Factory.
Beverly had been a very active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 3382, where she served as a district president and auxiliary president several times. Beverly was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church. As her health kept her home most of the time, she loved to play games on her computer, talk to her friends on Facebook, work the crossword puzzle daily from start to finish, and work jigsaw puzzles. Beverly never let her struggle get her down.
Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Jack Jones; parents, William T. Bond, Sr. and Pauline Cox Bond; brothers, Harry Bond and William T. Bond, Jr; sisters, Doris Stacy and Mary Tapscott; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, William T. Jones and Victoria Neal Wade Jones.
Beverly is survived by her daughters, Valeri Colyer and husband, Rod of Wise, VA, Tracy Jones of Kingsport, TN, and Wendy Jones of Wise, VA; a very special “adopted” son, Wayne Gillenwater of Johnson City, TN; and a very special “4th daughter”, Kelle Bellamy of Charleston, SC. Beverly is also survived by her dear and wonderful brother and sister-in-law, Don and Nancy Bond of Bristol, TN. Beverly was blessed with great friends and neighbors, including, Thelma Orton, Richard Onks, Buddy Duke, and Wanda Holden, Louella and Van Blair, Brandy Duke, and the love of her life, Bentley and Carly Olterman, whom she considered to be her “grandchildren”.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Joe Green and Rev. Jack Weikel officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Randy Quillin, Josh Quillin, Houston Buchanan, Andy Perry, Bobby Colyer, Randy Rigg, Chris Wexler, and Jimmy Orton will serve as pallbearers. Buddy Duke, Richard Onks, Van Blair, and Wayne Gillenwater will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:45 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
Beverly’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Lana and Randy Quillin, who were always there when she needed them, always prayed for her, and sat with her in the hospital so her girls could work and not worry about their Mom being alone, and the staff and congregation of First Broad Street United Methodist Church for their calls, visits, food, and prayers.
