Nannie Edna Tate Johnson, 97, Ft. Blackmore, VA entered into rest Monday, September 7, 2009 at her residence after a lengthy period of declining health.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Scott County, VA on January 23, 1912, the daughter of the late James Gulley Tate and Effie Mae Pierson Tate.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Johnson; her son, G.A. Johnson; sisters, Maude Stewart, Ruby Noe and Lovely Carr; brothers, Kenneth Tate, George W. Tate, Henry K. Tate, and Elmer Tate.
Surviving Mrs. Johnson are her daughters, Evelyn Johnson, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Helen Smith and husband, Ralph, Weber City, VA, and Clara Parman, Knoxville, TN; her son, John Myron Johnson and wife, Marie, Church Hill, TN; daughter-in-law, Bobbie Johnson, Ft. Blackmore, VA; grandchildren, Katrina Smith-Toole and husband, Matt, Renita Probst and husband, John, Lou Ann Johnson, Nancy Robinson and husband, Martin, Verne Parman and wife, Barbie, and Benjamin Parman and wife, Nikki; great grandchildren, Sullivan Toole, Avery Probst, Joseph Parman, Alex Probst, Madison Parman, and Hattie Robinson; sister, Virginia Edens, Kingsport, TN; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Ken Pierce officiating. The Fellowship Trio, and Ken and Phyllis Pierce will provide the music.
Burial will follow the service at the Johnson Family Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
