"Jimmy Lynn Dishner, 74, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at the University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital.
Born in Kingsport, TN, Jimmy was the beloved son of the late Robert and Mildred (Rasnic) Dishner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Stevie and Keith Dishner.
Jimmy is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Patricia “Pat” (Fritz) Dishner; his son, Jason Dishner, and wife, Julie; and his cherished grandchildren, Caroline, Ethan, and Ty Dishner. He also leaves behind his brothers, Greg Dishner and Terry Dishner, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and countless dear friends who enriched his life.
A proud graduate of Rye Cove High School, Jimmy spent his childhood in the Duffield area, where he met Pat. High school sweethearts, their bond grew into a lifelong partnership filled with love and dedication. Jimmy earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from ETSU and a Master’s Degree from Union College, embarking on a remarkable career in education.
Over the years, he served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent, forging meaningful connections with students, teachers, and community members across Scott County and beyond. Jimmy was passionate about fostering success in others, especially those who faced challenging circumstances, always encouraging perseverance and growth.
A man of deep faith and unwavering kindness, Jimmy was actively involved in organizations such as the Lions Club, Rotary, and Scott County Chamber of Commerce. He found beauty in life’s blessings and held a special appreciation for God’s grace. Known for his humility and humanity, his virtues far outweighed any flaws, and he was deeply loved by all who knew him.
Jimmy’s greatest joys were his family and his grandchildren, whom he adored. He had an exceptional gift for connecting with people, especially children, and his legacy of love, service, and compassion will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
A Celebration of Jimmy’s Life will take place on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Gate City Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., with a service following at 4:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. Sean Bailey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to assist Appalachian families impacted by Hurricane Helene.
