Brenda (Sluss) Jessee – Dungannon, VA
Brenda (Sluss) Jessee passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family at her bedside, on May 11, 2021.
Born in Scott County, VA on May 24, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Ballard and Lois (Sweeney) Sluss, Sr.
In addition to her parents her sisters, Estelle “Tabby” Richmond, and Margaret Lou Meade; brothers, Hershel Sluss, Ben Sluss, Oscar Fred Sluss, Mack Sluss, and Donnie Sluss; and nephews, Jesse Sargent, Gary “Meadeo” Meade, and Ernie Campbell preceded her in death.
Brenda is survived by her fiancé, Jerry Strong; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Parks and wife, Summer; grandchildren, Abby Parks, and Rhealan Parks; brother, Charles Sluss; sister, Virginia (Jenny) Campbell; sisters-in-law, Frieda Sluss, Mary Sluss, and Lizzy Sluss; brother-in-law, Jack Meade; half-sister, Maxie Castle; friend and caregiver, Barbara Campbell; special niece and caregiver, Sherry Robinson; along with several other very special nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Friday, May 14, 2021 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Walter Taylor and Rev. Larry Beavers officiating. Walter and Libby Taylor, and Charles “Peanut” Ramsey, and Makayla and Trevor Ramsey will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Ben Sluss Memorial Cemetery on Twin Springs Road, Dungannon, VA.
Joseph Parks, Joe Lell, Greg Robinson, James Sargent, Terry Campbell, and Charles "Peanut" Ramsey will serve as pallbearers. Jason Sluss, James Sargent, Charles “Peanut” Ramsey, and Eugene Ramsey will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:15 a.m., Saturday to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family would like to thank Andrew White and staff of Caris Hospice for their love and care of Brenda.
