Wayne Pierson Jennings – Gate City, VA

Wayne P. Jennings, 78, born on January 17, 1936 of Gate City, VA, went to be with the Lord on August 2, 2014, after a short illness.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Wayne was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Wayne, his parents Wrightly and Mary Jennings, sister Emogene and husband Jimmy Snodgrass, mother-in-law Ethel Owens, father-in-law Ray Johnson, and brother-in-law Kenneth Johnson.

Wayne went to work at the Taylor Theater in 1952 and worked there until it closed in 1962. He began working at AFG Greenland Glass Plant in 1962 and retired from there in 1998. He was also a farmer and loved to work in his workshop where he spent many happy hours.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Eula Mae, daughters and sons-in-law Cathy and Robert Baldwin, Linda and Ronnie Babb, sons and daughters-in-law Larry and Glenna Jennings, Keith and Cindy Jennings, six grandchildren, Sandra and husband Scott Gray, Rebecca Vermillion, Jeffery Babb, Michael and wife Monica Babb, Aaron Jennings, and Amelia Jennings, step grandson Jimmy and wife Salem Odham, eight great-grandchildren, Kayla, Ashley, Alex, and Jessica Vermillion, Evan, Taylor, and Dylan Gray, and Emily Babb, sister-in-law Joan Wilder, several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m.in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jeff DeBoard officiating. Michelle Jenkins and Valis Bowen will provide the music.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Pallbearers will be Jeffery and Michael Babb, Aaron Jennings, Mike Snodgrass, Bryan Johnson, and Scott Gray, with honorary pallbearers Kenneth and Phil Johnson, Ronnie Babb, Robert Baldwin. and Tammy Johnson Carter.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.

The family wishes to convey a special "Thank you" to the doctors and nurses at Duke University Hospital and Select Specialty Hospital at Bristol Regional Memorial Hospital.
