Leona F. Hurd – Duffield, VA
Leona F. Hurd, 83, Duffield, VA passed away on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, TN.
Leona was born in Hancock County, TN on August 23, 1933 to the late Hiram and Sarah Jane Herron.
Leona was a loving and devoted wife to Ike for 66 years. She was also a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, neighbor, and friend to all who knew her. She lived life daily for her family. She attended Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Duffield until her health kept her from attending. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She will be deeply missed by all.
In addition to her parents, her sister, Bertha Wilson; brothers, Carl Herron and Eckel Herron preceded her in death.
Leona is survived by her husband of 66 years, Wiley (Ike) Hurd, Duffield, VA; daughter, Kathy Johnson and husband, Arlis, Duffield, VA; son, Michael Hurd and wife, Katy, Huntersville, NC; grandchildren, Regina Slater and husband, Jason, Duffield, VA and Emily and Ike Hurd, Huntersville, NC; great-granddaughter, Jasmine Slater, Duffield, VA; brother, Quintin Herron and wife, Sally, Morristown, TN; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Brother Kenneth Neeley officiating. Bud Williams will provide music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
