Elder A. D. Howington, 94, Kingsport, TN passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Indian Path Hospital.

A. D. Howington was born on October 11, 1925 in Scott County, VA to the late Jay and Mary Cordellia Lane Howington. His wife, Audrey Faye Simpson Howington; his son, Dennis Howington; sisters, Pearlie Taylor, Lula Stidham, Gracie Casteel, Margie Hall, Ruth Crocket and Nancy Saul; brothers, Conley Howington, John Wesley Howington and Bobby Howington preceded him in death.

He was an ordained Primitive Baptist Minister in 1978 and given the title of Elder. He pastored many churches in Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky. His first love in serving God was teaching GOD’s word. He taught Sunday School until 3 weeks before his passing. He was a member of Walnut Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.

Elder Howington is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Larry Jones; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Tina Howington; son, Clayton Howington; grandsons, Larry Jones, Jr. and John Wesley Howington; great-granddaughter, Kai-Lynn Howington; great grandson John Kolston Howington, several nieces and nephews, many wonderful friends and neighbors and a large Church and Christian family.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Gate City Funeral Home. Friends may also visit the family at the residence of his daughter. His funeral service will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Elder Paul Strong officiating. Billy Jack Johnson will be delivering the eulogy.

The graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Walnut Chapel Church Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery for the service.
