James Frank Houseright

February 6, 1942 — May 11, 2021

James “Frank” Houseright, age 79, of Franklin, OH passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at his residence.

He was born February 6, 1942 to the late Marshall and Nell Houseright in Gate City, Virginia.

Frank worked 10 years as a painter in the commercial and residential construction and remodeling business. In addition, he worked an additional 15 years or so training and racing horses, specifically harness racing.

Ornery, outgoing, kind, loving, family oriented, and always concerned for the well-being of others, Frank had a laugh that will always be remembered. His laugh was so addictive and noticeable, that it is the feature that first attracted his wife to him. In addition to his love of owning and caring for horses, he also enjoyed playing the card game Canasta with friends and family. He also greatly enjoyed fishing, watching John Wayne western movies, and rooting on the Yankees, Redskins, and Virginia Tech Hokies. Among many things, he will be remembered for his love of spending time with his family. Between family reunions and traveling each summer with his wife and kids to visit his parents in Virginia, the traditions he created around quality family time will always be special memories. Due to the kindness he always showed to others, it was recently quoted “the world is a little less kind without him in it!”

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Bill Houseright.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara; three daughters Tonya (Donnie) DeChant, Becky (Brent) Montgomery, and Lynn (Bryan) Young; five grandchildren Tiffany (Mike) Kamm, Kayla Pate, John Geary, Liam Young (fianceé Matti), and Sarah Montgomery; six great grandchildren Austin, Tristan, Mya, Layla, Michael “Bubby”, and Aria; one brother Richard Housewright; and two sisters Barbara (Ralph) Hensley and Doris McDavid.

The family will receive friends 5 - 8 PM Sunday, May 16 at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville.

An additional visitation will be held 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 18 at Gate City Funeral Home in Gate City, Virginia. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 1:00 pm at Gate City Funeral Home. Pastor Johnny Duncan will be officiating the services.

Burial will be in Hensley Cemetery in Gate City.
