Paul McClellan Hobbs, 80, Kingsport, TN passed away, Thursday, February 03, 2011 at his residence after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Hobbs was born in Scott County, VA on January 5, 1931, son of the late William Joseph and Georgia McClellan Hobbs.
Paul was retired from Holston Defense Corporation and worked for Gate City Funeral Home for over 45 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving with the United States Army Constabulary in Germany. A life member of the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the V.F. W. and member of the V.F.W. Color Guard, he participated in over 3,000 funerals.
He was also a VA volunteer with more than 8,000 hours of service; also a member of the Scottish Rite Masons since 1995, and a member of the Shriners Jericho Temple in Kingsport, TN.
He attended Bethel Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Everhart Hobbs, a sister-in-law, Lois Everhart, and a special uncle, Ralph McClellan.
Surviving is his daughter, Lou Ann White and husband, Billy, Kingsport, TN; granddaughter, Lindsey Stanley and husband, Mike, Kingsport, TN; great grandchildren who he lived for, Cheyenne Stanley and Madison Stanley; also surviving is his sister, Peggy Matlock and husband, Nick, AK; brothers-in-law, Grover Everhart, Kingsport, TN and Glenn Everhart and wife, Ruth, Tampa, FL; uncle, Claude McClellan, Gate City, VA; a host of special friends, Burl Jennings, Tom Williams, Roy Peters, Roger Morrison, Rob Woods, Doyle Hensley and John Fischer along with his co workers of Gate City Funeral Home, all who will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers; along with many other friends and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11 -1:00 p.m., Sunday, February 6, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the V.F.W. at Oak Hill Memorial Park at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, February 6, 2011.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, 1593 Warpath Drive, Kingsport, TN 37660.
