Jerry Wayne "Barlow" Hill, 63, Ft. Blackmore, VA passed away, Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
Barlow was born in Sullivan County, TN on March 28, 1950 to the late Almer Clyde and Ruby Elizabeth McNew Hill, Sr.
He was employed for 37 years with J.P. Stevens. He loved hunting with his dogs, and was a great provider for his family.
In addition to his parents, his brother, Dennis Hill preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Salling Hill, Ft. Blackmore, VA; daughter, Amy Elizabeth Bledsoe and husband, Billy, Ft. Blackmore, VA; son, David Scott Hill, Ft. Blackmore, VA; grandchildren, Hunter Estepp, Emily Estepp, Caitlyn Bledsoe, Lindsey Bledsoe, Ashley Bledsoe, Kendra Hill, and Brayden Hill; sister, Wanda Hill, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Mary Smith and husband, Bill, Gate City, VA, and Kate Lane and husband, Dewey, Kingsport, TN; brother, Gary Hill, Rogersville, TN, his special care giver, Dawn Strickler; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. L.W. "Red" Salling and Brother Ray Bledsoe officiating. Mickey and Nickie Summey and Durham's Chapel Quartet will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Marshall Cemetery, Sinking Creek, Scott County, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Hugh Sherron, Dale Smith, Coy Tipton, Bill Salling, Robert Bledsoe, Bill Persons, Ralph Honeycutt, and Roy Thacker will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
