Bryan Hagan Hilbert, 78, of Kingsport passed away at home surrounded by his family on September 3, 2010. Bryan was born September 9, 1931 in Clinchport, VA to William and Kathleen Stokes Hilbert.
He graduated from Shoemaker High School and resided in Scott County until moving to Kingsport in 1964. He was employed by the Kingsport Press for 45 years, retiring in 1997.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Hilbert and sister, Edythe Hilbert Mann.
Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Patsy Owens Hilbert, Kingsport; daughter, Marsha Hilbert Elam and husband, Leo, Kingsport; son, Alan Hilbert and wife, Joyce, Woodstock, GA; daughter, Teresa Hilbert Martin, Kingsport; son, Marty Hilbert and wife, Teresa, Kingsport, and his grandchildren, Bryan and Tyler Elam, Ian and Brittany Hilbert, Katy and Zac Klien, and William Martin.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, September 6, 2010 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Jeff DeBoard and the Rev. Tom Elam, Sr. Music will be provided by Jim Belt Baker.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Alan Hilbert, Marty Hilbert, Ian Hilbert, Zac Klien, Tyler Elam, and Bryan Elam will serve as pallbearers. John Blanton, Milton Wood, David Jennings, and Leo Elam will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family would like to extend special thanks to John Blanton, his lifelong friend, neighbors, Dwaine and Glenda Goodwin, Bobbie Trent and Wellmont Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 207 Boone Street, Suite 1500, Johnson City, TN 37604 or to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Suite 102, Johnson City, TN 37604.
