Hazel Herron – Gate City, VA
Hazel Ida Herron, 81, Gate City, VA went to be with her Lord, Friday, February 19, 2016 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Hazel was born in Rye Cove, Scott County, VA on October 13, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Kelly and Ellen Tipton.
She was a member of Clinchport Baptist Church for 35 years and was very devoted to her church.
She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Hazel worked at Goodwill Industries for several years before retiring.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Otis Herron; daughter, Jo Ann Freeman; grandson, Joshua Thomas Freeman; sister, Margaret Tipton; brothers, Charles and Maurice Tipton; sisters-in-law, Barbara, Georgia, Linda, and Mable Tipton; brothers-in-law, Cecil and Alfred Herron, Kelly Bishop, and Delmar Sloan preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Tipton and husband, Howard, Gate City, VA; granddaughter, Carrie Lloyd and husband, Daniel; great granddaughter , Taylor Lloyd; sisters, Nannie Bishop, Duffield, VA, Wilma Sloan, Duffield, VA, Lucille Tipton, Duffield, VA; brothers, Guy Tipton, Duffield, VA and Jack Tipton, Duffield, VA; sisters-in-law, Glenna Herron, Kingsport, TN and Louise Herron, Speers Ferry, VA; special niece, Eva Dingus; along with several other nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Howard Tipton. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Joe Hill and Rev. Lennis France officiating. Tommy and Doris Wells will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. L.C. Lane, Carl Tipton, Ricky France, Tommy Freeman, Randy Tipton, and Tracy Tipton will serve as pallbearers. Her Clinchport Baptist Church family will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at W-3 Wilcox Hall and Holston Manor, especially Rita, Robin, Regina, Peggy, Sarah, Christy, Tom, and Sami Jo for their love and care of “Mamaw”.
