Roy L. “Doss” Hensley, 67, Gate City, VA passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, TN.
Roy was born in Scott County, VA on October 17, 1949 to the late Charlie P. and Mattie G. (Kinkead) Hensley.
In addition to his parents, his sister, Bertha Dean and brothers, Elmer Hensley and Cecil Kinkead preceded him in death.
Roy is survived by his wife of 46 years, Glenna S. Hensley, Gate City, VA; daughter, Lisa Mann and husband, Jeff, Gate City, VA; son, David Summey, Ft. Blackmore, VA; grandchildren, Priscilla Mann and fiancé, Heath Estep, Johnson City, TN, Tyra Summey, Nickelsville, VA, Quentin “Bo” Mann, Gate City, VA, Donovan Mann, Gate City, VA; great-granddaughter, Aayla Estep; brothers, Homer “Toke” Hensley, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Billy Hensley and wife, Kathy, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Sidney “Ruke” Hensley and wife, Teresa, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Jimmy Ray Hensley and wife, Peggy, Gate City, VA, and Broadis Clay Hensley and wife, Deborah, Ft. Blackmore, VA; brother-in-law, Herm Dean, Ft. Blackmore, VA; along with several nieces and nephews and many friends including his special companion, Paris.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. James Mann and Rev. Otto Gibson officiating. Mickey and Nikki Summey will provide music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 17, 2017 at Lawson Family Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Mark Barnett, Daniel Dean, Anthony Williams, Jimmy Hilton, Calvin Ramey, Joe Sanders, and Gale Gibson will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
