Mr. Pat William Henry, 87, Banjo Drive, Hiltons passed away, Friday, August 10, 2012 at the residence of his daughter in Alpharetta, GA.

He was a lifelong resident of Hiltons. Pat was a faithful member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. He worked tirelessly to help the church. He was a Sunday School Teacher, Song Leader, Treasurer, and Lay Speaker. He was a retiree from Raytheon Manufacturing Co. after working there 33 years. He served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Bates in World War II. He loved bluegrass and old time music attending local shows at the Carter Fold on a regular basis. He was also an avid Braves fan.

Pat gives God all the glory and credit. He is looking forward to seeing all his family in Heaven and the ones that will come later.

In addition to his parents, his wife of 46 years, the lovely Mary Marie Henry; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe Cephus Henry and wife, Mary, Brud Henry and wife, Lillian, and Ralph Henry and wife, Cora preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Henry Martin and husband, Paul, Alpharetta, GA; granddaughter, Samantha P. Martin, Knoxville, TN; three special nieces, Debbie Farley, Spanishburg, WV, Linda Henry, Princeton, WV, and Donna Kay Blankenship, Princeton, WV; special cousin, Jerry Frazier, Nickelsville, VA; along with several other nieces and nephews.

Pat had many special friends that included the Carter Family, the Cash Family, Tom T. Hall and wife, Dixie, Shirley Gardner, Minnie Baker, Eula Markum, and Carl Salyers and family, the ladies of Mt. Vernon, Fern Salyers, Bonnie Harper Fugate, Flo Wolfe, Dewanna Cross, Thelma Wolfe, and many others who have come and gone. He also had special friends at the Piccadilly in the Ft. Henry Mall.

The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Will Shewey and Pastor Vickie Fulkerson officiating. Oscar Harris and Dale Jett will provide the music. A piano solo will be given by Patsy Mercer.

Military Graveside Services will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA, conducted by members of the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. Members of Hilton's Volunteer Fire Department, Grady Blalock, Jim Bowlin, Lanny Bright, and Joe Horton will serve as pallbearers. Carl Salyers, Jack Parker, W.T. Collins, and Joe Thompson will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Pat's name to Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church Building Fund, Attn: Mike Beaule, P.O. Box 175, Hiltons, VA 24258.

The family wishes to convey their special thanks to Longleaf Hospice, Atlanta, GA, Lisa, Jim, Barbara, Marshall, Katherine, Natalie, and Chaplin Alan, and to caregivers, Janice Broughton and Debbie and Oliver Zenallis for their care and dedication to Mr. Henry.
