Nancy Carlee Harris, 66, Gate City, VA went to be with her Lord, Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, after an extended illness.
Born August 21, 1946 in Scott County, VA where she was a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of the late Larlin Nathan and Myrtle Jennings Harris. Nancy was a born again Christian and retired from Kingsport Press/Quebecor in 2006 with over 39 years of service.
She had the biggest heart with the most caring touch, which she shared with so many of us. She was much loved by family and friends and will be sadly missed.
In addition to her parents, her brother, Hubert Larlin Harris, infant brother, Ralph Creed Harris; sister, Charlotte Smith; and brother-in-law, Claude "Sonny" Smith preceded her in death.
She is survived by her special niece and caregiver, Melissa "Missy" Meade and husband, Justin, Nickelsville, VA; her boyfriend of 47 years, Donald "Pete" Sanders, Gate City, VA; nieces, Faith Dean and husband, Clifford, Nickelsville, VA and Vicki Lane and husband, Phillip, Ft. Blackmore, VA; nephew, Brian Harris and wife, Christy, Church Hill, TN; great nieces, Kaitlan Lane, Kailee Harris, and Morgan Harris; great nephew, Hunter Lane; sister-in-law, Verna Harris, Gate City, VA; and best friend, Billie Jo Burke, Kingsport, TN.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Bob Lane officiating. Ted Smith will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Phillip Lane, Hunter Lane, David Sanders, Johnny Sanders, JR, Nathan Catron, Daniel Meade, Ronald Gillenwater, and Donald Gillenwater will serve as pallbearers. Leland Sanders, Larry Horne, Donald Harris, Fred Bailey, and Brian Harris will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friend are asked to meet at funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Wednesday to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family wishes to convey a special thank you to Dr. Carla Beswick, Dr. Steven Adkins, Advanced Home Health Care (Penny and Kelly); and the doctors, special nurses, and staff of Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center for their love and support of Nancy.
