Juanita Hammonds, 77, Gate City, VA passed away, Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Hammonds was born in Sullivan County, TN on August 10, 1934, daughter of the late James Allen and Lillian Dempsey Hyatt.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude, Sr., daughters, Christina Hammonds and Barbara "Peach" Morelock; and grandson, Bobby Morelock.
She is survived by her sons, Claude Hammonds, Jr. and wife, Pauline, Duffield, VA, Billy Hammonds, Sr. and wife, Linda, Gate City, VA, Allen Hammonds, and wife, Peggy, Nickelsville, VA, and Keith Hammonds and wife, Angie, Weber City, VA; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Jack Hyatt, Kingsport, TN; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Billy and Linda Hammonds. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Elder Jimmy Combs and Brother Dewey Shaffer officiating. Eddie Roberts will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Adams Cemetery on Copper Ridge in the Manville community of Scott County, VA. Josh Hammonds, Isaac Hammonds, Roy Egan, Ethan Tate, Shane Falin, and Chester Culbertson will serve as pallbearers. Roger Bowen, Larry Tate, and Billy Hammonds, Jr. will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to HealthSouth Rehab and the Wellmont Holston Valley Nurses and Hospice Team for their care of Mrs. Hammonds.
