Johnny Russell Hammonds, 54, Fall Branch, TN, passed away unexpectedly after being ill for sometime on Saturday, February, 13, 2016 at his residence.
Johnny was born in Sullivan County, TN on August 15, 1961 to Eugene Marvin and the late Lois Pearl Ferguson Wright Hammonds.
In addition to his mother, his son, Jonathon Conley Hammonds; special niece, Cassandra BJ Hammonds Carter; special friends, Red Lawson, Ship Brickey, Stacy Hayes, preceded him in death.
Johnny had lived in Fall Branch Community for several years. He was a retired farmer. He loved life, his family, his children, and his wife of 25 years. He loved hunting with his daughter Rebecca “Punkin” Hammonds. He loved his baby boy and best friend, Josh Hammonds. He loved and cherished his son, John boy who had preceded him in death. Johnny was always a cut up and loved to tell old stories and reminisce about adventures with his wife, brothers, cousins and friends. He loved his grandchildren, but papaw’s boy was Chevy, and Jalen was mamaw’s boy, both of the home. Johnny had a special saying “A man is only as good as his word. Without that you are nothing.”
He is survived by his wife, Virginia “Cricket” Lingerfelt Hammonds; father, Eugene Hammonds; daughters, Rebecca Hammonds and Brandy Hammonds; sons, Josh Hammonds, Donald Hammonds, Jeffrey Hammonds, Russell Hammonds and Anthony Walker; sister, Sandra Hammonds; brothers, Tony Hammonds, Ronnie Hammonds and Donald Hammonds; grandchildren, Chevy Bowser, Jalen Defriece, both of the home, along with several other grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Haylie Hammonds; nieces and nephews, Ron and Casey Walker, Justin Hammonds, Tadpole Finley, “Little Man” Finley, Bridget Walker and several others.
Thank you to special friends Teresa Dishner and grandkids, Ron Walker, Ann Keys, Ray and Janice Keys, Vicky Dickerson, Bo and Lisa Rector, Colton Gregg, Cheyenne Gregg, Samantha Hubbard, his mother-in-law, Grace Oliver and Kenny, Kevin Walker, Kelly and Myron Marshall, Brittany Hubbard, Cherry Hill Church, Carol Breuel and family, Linda Williams and family, Corey, Chris, Dustin Spears, Shannon Necessary, and so many more.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m., Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Steve Wilson officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted immediately following the funeral service.
