James McKinnley Hammonds, 88, Ft. Yuma, VA passed away, Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Ridgecrest Manor, Duffield, VA.
Mr. Hammonds was born in Scott County, VA on November 28, 1927. He was the son of the late Wrightly Abram and Margaret Adaline Peters Hammonds.
In addition to his parents, his first wife, Clara Ruth Cleek Hammonds; sister, Wilma Monroe; brothers, Herbert and Paul Hammonds; and sister, Mary M. Hammonds preceded him in death.
He is survived by his companion, Margie Calton, Gate City, VA; daughters, Carolyn Ann Maxceal, IN, Wanda Faye Wilson, IN, Bettye Sue Stewart, TN, Thelma Ruth Hammonds, IN, Joyce Ann Hammonds, KY; sisters, Hazel Mathis, Kingsport, TN, Elizabeth Strong, Kingsport,TN, Louela Hammonds, Kingsport, TN, Beatrice Lane, Duffield, VA; six grandchildren ; along with several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m., Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating.
Graveside services will follow the service, Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
