Henry Alfred "Bill" Hammonds, 94, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at his home.
Bill was born in Scott County, VS on December 17, 1918 to Henry Newt and Vergie McDavid Hammonds.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his daughter, Patsy Hammonds, sons; Glen, Fred and Ellis Hammonds, sisters; Lizzie Tipton and Luly Jennings, brothers; Harold, Bradley and Johnny Hammonds.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Hammonds, Gray ,TN; daughters, Marcelina McNeese and husband, Odie, Nashville, TN, Erma McCulley and husband, John, Gray, TN, Juanita Dishner and husband, Curtis, Gray, TN; son, Keith Hammonds and wife, Arlene, Gray, TN; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Nannie Jones, Red Hill, VA, Ettie Spivey, Copper Ridge, VA, Shirley Tipton, Weber City, VA; brothers, Odell Hammonds, Kingsport, TN, Bob Hammonds, Kingsport, TN, Ben Hammonds, Copper Ridge, VA, Jim Hammonds, Kingsport, TN and Gene Hammonds, Kingsport, TN; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jimmy Combs and Rev. Lenny Smith officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Hammonds Family Cemetery in the Copper Ride Community of Scott County, VA. Caleb Dishner, Jack Davis, Chad Hammonds, Cody Lackey, Daniel Hammonds, and Dwayne Lance will serve as pallbearers. K.P. Stafford, Dean Tucker, Roger Dameron, Dale Hammonds, and Tony Story will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Friends and family are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m., to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. James Laughlin and the Christian Care Center of Johnson City, TN; along with the staff at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center for their care of "Bill".
