Emogene Jennings Hammonds, 90, Gate City, VA
Emogene Jennings Hammonds finished her life here on earth August 22, 2017. She was a daughter of the late Roy and Ruth Quillen Jennings. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jerry Hammonds; her brother in law, Charlie Hammonds; her siblings, Dorothy, C.D., Loretta, Helen, and Leon.
She is survived by her sons, Lowell and Myra Hammonds and Don and Linda Hammonds; her daughter, Brenda and Barry Flora. She is also survived by four grandchildren and their families, Stephanie and Gerald Reed and Justin, Amy and Aaron Ward and Cole, Blake Hillman and Leeann and Eden, Bryan and Sloane Bowen and Jarrod and Will Bowen, Matthew Elliott, Cassidy Elliott and Kenzie, Alan and Laura Hammonds and Clay; sisters, Mary Clendenin and Barbara Hawkins; brother, Kenneth Jennings; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Emogene loved to travel. She traveled long distance with her buddies, Rosie, Helen and Mary. She ran around locally with Ettie and Louise. She was a wonderful cook and took pride in cooking for her family, and was a member of Tipton’s Chapel Church.
Emogene has spent the last five months with her daughter Brenda and her family in Christiansburg, VA.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 26, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Gate City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Steve Collins officiating. Burial will follow at the Family Cemetery in Manville, VA. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
