Mr. Doyle Virgil Hammonds, 92, Gate City, VA passed away, Monday, July 25, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Hammonds was born in Scott County, VA on March 6, 1919, a son of the late William Worley Hammonds and Mary Elizabeth Lane Hammonds.
Mr. Hammonds was retired from the Scott County School System. He had many friends and was loved by everyone.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Amma Penley Hammonds in 2008; brother, Kenny Hammonds; and sisters, Lakie Bellamy and Irene Estepp.
Surviving is his brother, Jimmy Hammonds and wife, Lorene; sisters, Blanch Estepp and Hemple Duncan, all of Gate City, VA; along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Thursday, July 28, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Bill Tignor and Rev. Phil Christian officiating. The Tipton Family and The Christian Family will provide the music.
Burial will follow the service at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. Nelson Williams, O.C. Templeton, Hubert Hood, Marty Hammonds, Keith Davidson, and Paul Fields will serve as pallbearers. Kenny Akers, J.B. Broadwater, and Neal Cloud will serve as honorary pallbearers.
