Mr. Richard Lynn Hammond, 47, Gate City, VA, went to be with his Lord, Friday, July 1, 2011.
Richard was born in Sullivan County, Tennessee on September 6, 1963, the son of Polly Austin Hammond and the late Lubert Hammond.
He was employed by General Shale.
In addition to his father, Lubert Hammond, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Isaac and Florence Hammond; maternal grandparents, Elmer and Georgia Austin; and a special friend, Sam Ervin.
Surviving is his wife, Amanda (Amy) Hammond, Gate City, VA; daughter, Kendra Faith Hammond, Gate City, VA; step son, Greg Herron, Gate City, VA; mother, Polly Hammond, Duffield, VA; brother, Eddie Hammond and Sherry Carter, Duffield, VA; sisters, Phyllis Payne and husband, Tommy, Blackwater, VA, and Teresa France and husband, Larry, Gate City, VA; second dad and mom, Bill and Shelby Ervin, Gate City, VA; nephews, Mark Dingus and wife, Brittany, Duffield, VA, and Brian Dingus and wife, Kayla, Duffield, VA; great niece, Sarah Renee Dingus, Duffield, VA; and uncles, Cecil Austin and wife, Ruth, Gate City, VA, Bobby Austin and wife, Patsy, Duffield, VA, and Vextel Austin, Gate City, VA.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Ray Dockery and the Rev. Daryl Hurd officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Kevin McNew, Sammy Ervin, Ron Austin, Allen Ison, Mike Ervin and Bill Austin will serve as pallbearers. Bill Ervin, Randy Ervin, Jack Austin, Travis Austin, Jeff Austin, Greg Austin, Jamie Austin, and Vextel Austin will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
