Rev. Lubert Hammond ? 78 — Duffield, VA went to be with Lord September 13, 2007 at Indian Path Medical Center.
Born in Scott County, VA on April 25, 1929, he was a son of the late Isaac and Florence Gilliam Hammond.
In addition to his parents his sisters, Beulah Tipton, Gladys Lane, Myrtle Hodgson and Lakie Hammond, brothers, Earl "Jack" and William Bill Hammond precede him in death.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and a minister of the Baptist faith for forty plus years ministering to the people of Scott County, VA. He was retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation, Pattonsville Division.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five plus years, Polly Austin Hammond, Duffield, VA, daughters, Phyllis Williams and husband, Sam, Duffield, VA and Teresa France and husband, Larry, Gate City, VA, sons, Eddie Hammond and Sherry Carter, Duffield, VA and Richard Hammond and wife, Penny, Gate City, VA, grandchildren, Mark and Brian Dingus and Kendra Faith Hammond along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m., Sunday, September 16, 2007 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Wrightly Salling and Rev. Gary Cavin officiating. The Mabe Quartet will provide music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 17, 2007 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Mark Dingus, Brian Dingus, Bill Austin, Mike Owens, Toke Hensley and Jake Daugherty will serve as pallbearers. Ernest Rhoton, "Monk" Rhoton, Kermit Lane,Cecil Austin, Jim Spivey and Danny Smith will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends will be meeting at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
