William Ray Hackney, Sr., 91, Gate City, VA passed away, Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Hackney was born in Scott County, VA on January 31, 1919; son of the late Estel Elmer and Effie Adele Starnes Hackney. He was retired from VDOT.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Christina Mae Williams Hackney, and several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are his sons, William Hackney, Jr. and wife, Susan, and Ronald Hackney and wife, Becky, who was his special caregiver; grandchildren, Stephanie Hackney and her guide dog, Sparky, Shana Arnett and husband, Rob, Lacy Pledger and husband, Chad, Chloe Horne and husband, Brandon, Christopher Hackney, and Colton Hackney; great grandchildren, Bradley Davidson, Isabella Davidson, and Lilly Grace Horne; sister, Francis Bowen and husband, Vanis, Gate City, VA; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11- 1 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral with the Rev. Riley Boy officiating. Marcus and Christie Smith will provide the music.
Mr. Hackney will be entombed following the service at Oak Hill Memorial Park, Kingsport, TN. Bill Hackney, Christopher Hackney, Colton Hackney, Devon Hunley, Michael Newton, Jordan Estepp, and John Newton will serve as pallbearers.
