Gale Lee Grigsby, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 14, 2017, at Wexford House in Kingsport.
Born in 1926, Gale served two years in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman Second Class. After his discharge, he lived and worked as a machinist in Pennsylvania for several years. After retirement, he moved back to Nickelsville where he owned and operated a trailer park on Kilgore Street. He was active in the community and worked for many years with the local volunteer Rescue Squad.
The youngest of six boys, Gale was preceded in death by five brothers; John D., Ray, Carl, Willis, and James; his parents, John and Carrie (Horne) Grigsby; his son, Jeffrey Lee; two great-grandchildren Cory Alexander and Katie Leigh Slaughter.
Gale is survived by his daughter Judy; his granddaughter Cristol of Kingsport, TN; his grandson, Rob of Florida, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Gate City Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2017, at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. Those wishing to attend the funeral service, please meet at the cemetery at least 15 minutes prior to time of service.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2017 at Holston View Cemetery by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 from Kingsport, TN.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Wexford House for the tender care they provided to Gale during his last days and the staff of NOVA Healthcare where he had resided the past two years. Special appreciation and gratitude is extended to Dr. Gregory DeMotts and his staff for all the care they provided Gale for many years.
